How far do I need to be able to ride?

Each trip has its own degree of challenge regarding the terrain and distances covered from day to day. Generally speaking- if you can ride 90+km with some hilly terrain you will be OK! Our trippers find they usually are surprised with what they can do with our full support!

What is the terrain like on the Croatian tour?

The terrain is new, different and exciting each day. We will find rolling terrain with some sharp grades in Istria, Gradual gradients on the islands and very long but not steep climbs when back on the wild coastal mainland. Check the trip route details for more info or speak with us directly if you have any questions about your fitness or even equipment choices.

What will we do when we’re not on the bike?

Most of our time will be spent enjoying the view from the saddle.  We’ll of course have scenic coffee breaks and lunch stops along the way.  Many of our trips also include several days by the sea, and we’ll have opportunities for swimming.  Every trip includes an optional rest day, dedicated to off-bike activities, sight-seeing on foot, shopping, etc, with an optional light ride. Evenings will be spent relaxing, eating delicious local food, recovering, and preparing for our next day of adventure.

What are the hotels like?

Accomodation styles vary by trip, please check your selected trip for details. But in general, all of our accommodations, whether private houses, historic city hotels, or storied hiking lodges, are comfortable, clean and picked to offer you a memorable local experience.

Can my non-riding partner/friend come too?

They are certainly welcome to join, and our routes offer much to enjoy for non-riders as well, but they would end up spending much of the day in the car. Riders with non-riding partners have booked private tours with us in the past, so we could customize a fully enjoyable experience for both rider and non-rider.

What if I’m traveling alone?

No problem! Most of our clients are solo travelers. Rates are based on double-occupancy, but private room upgrades are available for many trips. For double occupancy, we will place you with a same-sex roommate.

What is included in the trip?

Each trip has it own list of what is included but generally we take care of you from start to finish! New in late 2019 we will also offer some trips with a less inclusive structure as well. Check each trip for an exact list of what is included.

What isn’t included in the trip cost?

Trip prices do not include international flights, alcohol is not included (beyond a few bottles of wine for the table at dinner), tips or travel insurance.

Why don’t you include the flight?

Clients come from different places from all over the world, many arrive in Europe earlier or want to stay longer. We are happy to provide guidance in selecting the best arrival and departure airports and times, but it works best for everyone when you make your own travel plans.

What will the food be like?

Restaurants will vary from day to day based on the location (farm to table, local village grill, city restaurants). We always find fresh local ingredients for our home cooked meals. Restaurants are chosen based on authenticity, freshness of ingredients, and tastiness. Food allergies or special diets can be accommodated.

What do I need to pack?

We will provide a packing list prior to departure and are happy to answer any questions you may have regarding the appropriate clothing and gear for each individual trip.

Should I tip the guides?

Tips are not mandatory. If you enjoyed your experience then a tip to any one of your guides will be very much appreciated and will be split amongst the staff.

Can I cancel my trip after booking?

We understand that unforeseen events can come up and sometimes participants will have to cancel their trips.  Because we organize and pre-pay our trip costs well in advance, we have created a standard cancelation policy.

For our 2019 trips, If you need to cancel:

  • Within 30 days of signup: Full refund (if you pay by credit card we retain a 2.9% processing fee each way)

  • 90+ days from the trip start date (but after the 30 day grace period): Deposits are non-refundable

  • 61-90 days from the trip start date: 50% of total payment refunded**

  • 60 days or less from the trip start date: No refunds

**This only applies to participants who have paid their balances on time. If you do not pay the balance by the due date and cancel after the fact, your deposit is non-refundable.

Can I switch to a different date or different trip?

Yes- if the switch is made 90+ days prior to your scheduled trip we will ask for a $200 change fee per person and credit the remainder of your balance towards the new trip of your choice. If the change is made less than 90 days prior to your scheduled trip then standard cancelation policies will apply.
